The Zen Bunka Prize

In 1999, to commemorate the thirty-fifth anniversary of its establishment, the Institute for Zen Studies (Zen Bunka Kenkyūsho) initiated the Zen Bunka Prize, awarded every five years to two individuals and two organizations whose activities have contributed significantly to the advancement of Zen. Two types of prize are awarded: a Distinguished Service Prize and an Encouragement Prize.

Fourth Zen Bunka Prize

Description In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Institute’s establishment, two person were awarded Zen Bunka Distinguished Service Prize and Zen Bunka Encouragement Prizes.

Third Zen Bunka Prize

Date 2009/9/2
Description In commemoration of the forty-fifth anniversary of the Institute’s establishment, two organizations were awarded Zen Bunka Encouragement Prizes.

Second Zen Bunka Prize

Date 2004/9/25
Description In commemoration of the fortieth anniversary of the Institute’s establishment, one individual and two organizations were awarded Zen Bunka Encouragement Prizes.

First Zen Bunka Prize

Description In commemoration of the thirty-fifth anniversary of the Institute’s establishment, two individuals were awarded Zen Bunka Distinguished Service Prizes and two organizations were awarded Zen Bunka Encouragement Prizes.
