The Zen Bunka Prize
In 1999, to commemorate the thirty-fifth anniversary of its establishment, the Institute for Zen Studies (Zen Bunka Kenkyūsho) initiated the Zen Bunka Prize, awarded every five years to two individuals and two organizations whose activities have contributed significantly to the advancement of Zen. Two types of prize are awarded: a Distinguished Service Prize and an Encouragement Prize.
