Database of Zen Temple Properties
|Details||In this project the Institute is archiving important properties possessed by ordinary temples that fall outside the province of the “Greatest Treasures of Zen” project. The Institute has produced an easily used database to catalog digital photographs of paintings and calligraphies in the possession of temples agreeing to participate in this project.
In April 2011 the Institute examined and photographed approximately 300 works at two temples in the area of Numazu, Shizuoka Prefecture.
The Institute plans to integrate the archive assembled during the course of this project with the Institute for Zen Studies Bakuryo Exhibition, part of the Institute’s initiative to “collect, organize, and exhibit” the cultural properties of Zen.
In the future the Institute plans to establish an “Internet Museum of Zen Cultural Properties,” featuring Zen artwork and other cultural artifacts for which permission to display has been received from the owners. English, Chinese, Korean, and other versions are being considered.
