Scholarly resources
Much of the literary material in the possession of the Institute for Zen Studies can be found
in no other library or archive. The collection is available for viewing to researchers and
ordinary people at no charge. Each year approximately one thousand individuals avail themselves of this
service.
All bibliographic information is
digitalized. Also digitalized are a number of the Japanese
materials themselves; these are available to the public, and can be easily searched.
The Institute has also compiled a
digital archive of various buddha images and other
valuable properties in the possession of Zen temples. Based on this data, the Institute
is planning a Zen Cultural Properties Web Museum, a virtual museum that will
be accessible online from both within and without Japan.
